Jennifer Torres Visits Kreinhop!

As many of you know previously Kreinhop got a very special visit from the author Jennifer Torres who has written 3 books, one picture book, and 2 chapter books. One of her books, Steff Sotto, Taco Queen, is a Bluebonnet nominee.  She read a little bit of it to us during her presentation today.   She is currently working on publishing 2 more books. Skye, my co-writer, and I had the privilege to sit and ask Mrs.Torres a few questions. She gave us very good answers.

The questions and answers are listed below.

Q:  When did you first get interested in writing?

A:   I became interested in elementary school.


Q:  How old were you when you wrote your first book?

A:  I was about 28 years old.


Q:  Does it take a long time to go through the process of writing and publishing?

A:  It takes a year and a half. (that’s a long time!)


Q:  Have you always had an interest in writing?

A: Yes, since I was very young. I started as a reader.  I was very shy as a child so writing helped me express myself.


Q:  What is your favorite subject to write about?

A:  Realistic fiction and ordinary people who are special in their own ways.


Q:  What subject will you not write about?

A:  Scary books because I don’t like scary things.


Q:  What advice would you give to kids who want to be an author?

A:  Read a lot!  Reading is a great way to learn, and it’s good to practice writing a lot.


Q:  What inspires you for your stories?

A:  They are inspired by family, community, and everyday life.


Q:  How has your life changed since you became an author?

A:  I have gotten to travel to different towns and meet different students that like my books.


Q:  What is your favorite thing about being an author?

A:  Meeting readers and encouraging them to write.
